The FBC Softball team earned the top seed in the league tournament after posting a 19-3 record through the regular season. They squared off against #8 seed Christ Community UMC on Friday evening and won 11-7. That win meant that FBC would face #4 seed Selinsgrove Nazarene to start on Saturday morning. The offense put up 10 runs, which was more than enough to earn the win, as Nate Butler pitched a no hitter! The only thing that kept him from a perfect game was one walk.
Next up was the #2 seed, Calvary Fellowship. FBC dropped that game with a score of 2-1 and had to await the outcome of the loser’s bracket to determine their next opponent. Selinsgrove Nazarene fought their way back and set up a rematch for the right to play in the finals. This tightly contested contest was won by FBC with a 6-5 score.
The win against Nazarene set up a showdown for the championship between FBC and Calvary. Since Calvary had not yet suffered a loss in the tournament, FBC would need to win two games to lift the trophy. FBC won the game 4-2, setting the stage for a winner-take-all game. Calvary jumped out to an early lead, but FBC fought back to knot the score at 5-5 through the 7th inning. Solid defense kept Calvary off the board in the top of the 8th. With one out and a runner at third, Colton Kauffman stepped to the plate. He stroked a single past the second baseman, scoring Scott Erb from third and FBC won the tournament!
Congratulations to the players and thanks to the many fans that came out to support the team all season!
